This past weekend we all went up to Scotland. It all started at my bus stop where mom, dad, Weston, and Nolan picked me up in dad's car. So it started, the 411 mile journey (8 hours) up to Drumnadrochit (which is a small city located on the side of the Loch Ness.) Me, Weston, and Nolan had to do SOMETHING in the car, after all there wasn't much scenery as we were just traveling on the highway the majority of the time. So what did we do, we watched Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster. I've provided a clip of it to show how to say Drumnadrochit (Thanks to Scooby!).
We arrived to our little cottage in the dark, and with the glistening Loch Ness to our left and at 1:15am in the morning.
We then got straight to bed so we would be well rested for Saturday. On Saturday we got up later as a result of the late bed time. We then hustled out the door and went to The Loch Ness Exhibition and Centre where we got on a small coach drove by a famous writer and explorer of the Loch Ness monster legend. We then got off the coach a little ways from the Centre and then hopped onto a small boat on which we were toured around the Loch Ness.
Then after we finished the boat tour, we then ate lunch at a small café and looked at the Exhibition of the Loch ness Monster to see if we would decide whether to believe in Nessie or to believe that she is just some folklore. I can happily say that I believe in Nessie, Weston believes in Nessie, Nolan believes in Nessie, Mom doesn't, and Dad says he doesn't as well as Mom.
We then went home at 4 and decided to just relax as we didn't have much sleep the night before and were tired. Me, Weston, and Nolan, all decided to go on a hike. I led and I went to the end of a path were there was a sheep pasture on a large hill and a small gate sealing it off. We then climbed over the fence and started on our way up the big hill. First, I went with Weston, because Nolan had a stomach ache, and it took a little bit of persuading to get Weston to climb up the hill with as he was afraid that a ram might charge at us and try to kill us. We went about a quarter of the way up and we then turned back and went back home. When, we got home, I asked Nolan if he would like to go on the same walk that I did with Weston, but just farther. Nolan agreed and I can honestly say that Nolan did go farther then Weston in their first trys. After me and Nolan got home dad decided to grill hamburgers and have a picnic outside. After we ate we all watched Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster again as mom and dad didn't see it and they wanted to see of the references to where we were staying. After the movie we all went right to bed.
On Sunday we got up at our regular times that we usually do, and got already to leave. Us kids were quickly ready and we soon asked dad if we could climb to the top of the hill that we were at last night, dad said yes, and we were soon climbing over the same fence that we were last night. At the top there were some amazing views, and luckily I had my phone with me and I was able to take a video of all these amazing sights.
As you can see we successfully made it to the top of the hill. We then quickly came down and hopped right on into dad's car where we went to Culloden Battlefield. Mom and dad were very happy that it was free with a Nation Trust card (which is a card that allows you to get to into all kinds of different historical properties and gardens.) We ended up saving exactly 50pounds with the National Trust Card. Culloden Battle was a battle fought between the Jacobites (Rebels) and the Government. This battle was very significant for Scotland in many ways but one of the most significant ones was that this was the last battle fought between Brittan and Scotland. In those times, Britain was constantly trying to expand their empire and that included Scotland in the North. Click on the link if you would like to learn more about the Battle of Culloden. Battle of Culloden
After we finished Culloden, we went back into the car and traveled a short way to get to Clava Cairns which are burial chambers from the Bronze Age. It was very interesting to see how coplex and complicated the people that usually are considered to be stupid cave men that just play with fire. One of the chambers even had a hole that people walk into and was perfectly aligned so that the sun would shine in through the little hole on a specific day, at a specific time, in a specific month. After we finished exploring the Clava Cairns, we then went to Tesco (which is large European supermarket chain) where we were surprised to see that there was a whole section full of American foods, but while we were there, we decided that us kids were going to have burgers hand made by dad with the help of some ground beef, and that mom and dad would have some steaks. We then went to bed without a movie as the night before we had watched a movie and we usually only watch one movie a weekend.
We then woke up at our regular times again as usual, and we were already to go at 8:15 as we were going to picked up by driver who was going to drive us around Scotland for the whole entire day. Us kids once again were all dressed before we were meant to, and while mom and dad finished doing their things we played ball tag with a ball that we brought up from our house. Meanwhile, dad was trying to find our driver as he was meant to be at our house at 8:30, but 8:30 was there and left without our driver picking us up yet. Dad then called our driver and we found out that we had given him the wrong directions. So after a little bit, we finally found him and we all started an our long journey across all of Scotland. I will be putting up a different post all about the trip as there was so much stuff to do I think it should be separated.
After we finished the long tour, it was already 7:30 and we still hadn't ate. So what we did is we got dropped off back at our temporary house, we then got into our car and drove about 5 minutes to a restaurant that dad especially was keen on going to as they boasted a huge collection of over 600 whiskeys, the majority of course were Scottish. After we all finished eating (and drinking plenty of whisky), we all headed home and got straight to bed as it was already 9:00.
The next morning we got up slightly later as a result of the later bedtime. We then packed up all of our belongings and said goodbye to our little cottage. And there we were again on the long 8 hour drive back home. We then got home at 8:30 and then went to bed around 9:30. Well that's the end of yet another trip, but I'm glad to say that we will be going up to Scotland again. As for our next trip we will be going to..........
